Despite the arid climate, problematic floods occur in Al Za’atari camp after winter rains. To avoid flooding two pilot projects were designed where flood protection by rain water harvesting and the realisation of green public space go hand in hand. LODEWIJK BALJON landscape architects travelled to Jordan with the Team of the City of Amsterdam and the VNGI and presented the pilot proposals to the UNHCR, representatives of local authorities and the NGO’s involved in the camp.
