During the International Meeting ‘I Maestri del paesaggio’ 2017 in Bergamo, the Piazza Vecchia in the historic Cità Alta temporarily transformed into a cool square.

Both meanings of the word cool apply:
a statement and a spatial experience. The Piazza was crowned with a cloud of balloons that cast a shadow. A space for walking, sitting, dancing sheltered from urban heat stress. Gently moving the balloons had a relaxing hypnotising effect. The melting of the large block of ice sparked the public debate about climate change. But it was also an intriguing object to experience: feel it and see the simple cube shape transform into a sculptural object.

Statement of the jury:
The installation made of white balloons in combination with the melting ice cube draws a lot of attention and arouses curiosity. A project that not only fascinates, but also encourages reflection and in turn discussion about our environment and climate.
